Plan B has helped produce the following resources on 'big oil', climate and the massive aid subsidies that UK taxpayers pay to the oil companies.
Pumping Poverty; Britain's Department for International Development and the Oil Industry
This timely report investigates the role of British international development aid in supporting the oil industry. It finds that – far from helping the world’s poorest people – such aid often goes instead to the world's wealthiest corporations, leaving the poor worse off than before and aggravating global climate change.
The report says that the Department for International Development (DFID) is well placed to help the UK effort on climate change by phasing out its support for the fossil fuels industry and switching support to renewable energy.
"The impacts of climate change will be especially devastating for the world's poor. Currently, money from DFID that should be spent to support the most vulnerable is actually making the problem worse by helping multinational oil corporations bring more fossil fuels to market. This timely report uncovers the details of how DFID is favouring the interests of big oil over the needs of the poor." Meredith Alexander, People and Planet
